Proper Guitar Posture: Avoid Common Mistakes
Proper posture is crucial for guitar playing. Poor posture can lead to tension, fatigue, and even injury over time. Let's explore the correct way to hold your guitar.
Sitting Position:
- Sit upright with your back straight
- Keep both feet flat on the floor
- Rest the guitar's lower bout on your right leg (if right-handed)
- Keep the guitar close to your body
Hand Positioning:
Fretting Hand: Keep your thumb on the back of the neck, roughly behind your middle finger. Your wrist should be straight, not bent.
Picking Hand: Let your arm hang naturally. Your wrist should hover over the strings with a slight arch.
Common Mistakes to Avoid:
- Slouching or hunching over the guitar
- Pressing the neck into your palm
- Tensing your shoulders
- Bending your wrists at extreme angles
